"Poetry is NOT boring!"

What is SLAM! Poetry?
Defined by some as a “post modern form of performance poetry” and to others as “electrifying urban storytelling” SLAM! Poetry is a new word-based performance art that uses a combination of literary techniques and vocal dynamics to bring power to words and people.

The SLAM! Poetry Program is an exciting course that aims to reframe the world of Language Arts and give the power of poetic expression a contemporary spin.

What will it look like when you come to our school?
SoundKreations facilitators will come to your school ideally slipping into the current class timetable and providing each class with 30-60mins/day of instruction and performance. The instructor will begin with a redefinition of poetry through performance and discussion. During the remaining days, students will learn to express themselves through the written word and bring texture and power to the spoken word. To conclude the program, if requested, facilitators will hold a Traditional SLAM! Poetry Performance in which students are given the opportunity to share their work with their community.

What experience do you have?
SoundKreations is proud to work with poets who are at the forefront of the SLAM! Poetry scene. The artists who will be leading your program are award winning, title holding, nationally renowned poets. Our instructors specialize in the instruction of SLAM! Poetry within the school setting and are thus capable of addressing the unique needs of your students during this adventure!
